After ruling himself out of the Euro 2012 tournament, Manchester United footballer Michael Carrick is looking forward to a longer summer break.

But in his eagerness to get a tan, it looks like the midfielder, 30, has been neglecting the suncream as he holidays in Barbados.

Both the Geordie and his wife Lisa were looking a bit pink as they spent the day on the beach yesterday with their two children.

Pilates instructor Lisa, also 30, showed off her pilates-honed, if a tad sunburnt figure in a blue bikini, while her famous husband wore an eye-catching pair of trunks.

In between cooling off in the Caribbean Sea, the pair played on the beach with their son Jacey, two, and daughter Louise, four.

Carrick showed his relationship with wife Lisa is as strong as ever - who he's dated since high school - as the couple lavished affection on each other.

The couple have been together over 15 years after they started dating at Burnside Community High School in Wallsend.

Mrs Carrick, nee Roughead, previously stood out from her fellow England WAGs because she has a degree in business and is a lot more down-to-earth.

The childhood sweethearts tied the knot in Leicestershire in June 2007, with their daughter Louise arriving exactly nine months later.

Earlier this month, it was revealed Carrick had told the Football Association (FA) several months ago that he 'did not want to be sitting on the subs’ bench' for the England team in Poland next month.

When new England manager Roy Hodgson unveiled his 23-man squad, many were surprised to see regular England player Carrick's name missing.

However, Hodgson explained: 'I wouldn’t dream of putting Michael Carrick on a standby list after he’s made it clear in the past he doesn’t want to be involved like that.

'I’d have to be convinced he was better than the four [central midfielders] I’ve selected, and that he’d be happy to come out of retirement.'

Although the FA clarified Carrick wasn't in retirement, they said he would be prepared to help the England team in extreme circumstances.
